Within the scope of the 4 shipbuilding agreement signed between Atlas Shipyard and Longship, the first vessel named Longera was launched with a ceremony.
After the agreement signed in November 2022 between the two companies, the first sheet metal cutting was made on January 17, 2023, and the launching ceremony of Longera was attended by Atlas Shipyard and Longship officials as well as many guests.
The ceremony, hosted by Başak Şengül, marked the 100th anniversary of our Republic. It started with the celebration of the year. Enver Murat Başbay, Chairman of the Board of Atlas Shipyard, welcomed the guests in his opening speech.
Enver Murat Basbay: I hope it would be the first step of long-term cooperation with Longship”
Başbay stated that Atlas Shipyard was very pleased with their cooperation with Longship and wished that this cooperation would be instrumental in the continuation of new projects:
”I hope that this 4-vessel agreement would be the first step of a long-term cooperation starting with Longship. And I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Oyvind Sivertsen, one of the partners of Longship, who played a very important role in establishing the cooperation between Atlas Shipyard and Longship. He closely followed every stage of this project and contributed a lot to achieve the best result. The launch of this vessel is undoubtedly the result of a great team effort. I would like to express my gratitude to all our team, project management, Atlas shipyard employees and subcontractors who contributed to the build of this vessel and the preparations for the launching ceremony.
Following Beşbay’s speech, Oyvind Sivertsen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Longship, held the floor and took to the hustings.

Sivertsen started his speech by celebrating the 100th anniversary of our Republic. Sivertsen emphasized their satisfaction with their cooperation with Atlas Shipyard:
“When you set out to do successful things, you need to work with people you trust and do it together. We are very pleased with our relationship with Atlas Shipyard and we are proud of our project.
After a family photo was taken with the presentation of plaques and gifts to commemorate the day, the Longera cargo vessel met the sea accompanied by the 10th Year Anthem.
LONGERA TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The vessel has a length overall of 130.5m, width of 15.9m, deck height of 10.8m and is equipped with a diesel electric propulsion system.
The vessel, which will have a much lower fuel consumption compared to similar vessels, is being designed and built to be ready for hybrid propulsion systems in order to reduce its carbon footprint and to consume much more environmentally friendly fuels such as methanol instead of fossil fuels in the future.
