The 7th generation drilling vessel Cobalt Explorer (West Cobalt), purchased from the South Korean Daewoo, will start its mission in the Black Sea under a new name upon its arrival in Turkey.
The Cobalt Explorer was ordered to Daewoo by offshore drilling contractor Vantage Drilling in 2013. It was planned to be delivered in 2015, but the order was canceled.
In 2019, the offshore drilling contractor Northern Drilling company entered into an agreement with Daewoo to purchase the vessel. In October 2019, Northern Drilling also cancelled the resale contract of Cobalt Explorer. Therefore, the first user of Cobalt Explorer who has never been to the field will be Turkey.
